What’s the big deal on cuticle oil anyway?

cuticle oil nail care

As a Nail and Beauty Nerd client, you will no doubt have heard me say the words ‘do you use cuticle oil’ before, and truthfully, I can tell if you do or not. But why do us nail nerds ask, you say? If this sounds familiar then keep reading, as this blog is for you!

So, first things first…. Cuticle oil moisturises both your nail and your cuticle. If you stop and think what your hands and nails go through in a day, then the list adds up quite quickly…. Sun exposure, frequent hand washing, excessive cold climates (because let’s face it, were not blessed with amazing weather here in the UK all year around), or even chlorine in swimming pools. All these elements cause your nail and cuticle to become chapped, cracked and dry. So, like you do with your skin, you need to look after those beautiful nails of yours too!

So why cuticle oil if it is made up of vegetable oils? Please, do not just go try to stick your hands in some vegetable oil from the local shop and think this will do the same thing. People do not spend years of research in developing these special oils for no reason… Studies show that you need just a small drop on each cuticle to get the best results. Not only that, but the real deal cuticle oils also include multivitamins to help stimulate nail growth and increase circulation.

So as a quick summary;

Best applied at night
Use just a small drop on each nail and massage into the cuticle and nail to leave on overnight and protect your nail from the elements they have been exposed to during the day.

A daily does of vitamins
Some cuticle oils include vitamins to include vitamin E, as well as some fantastic natural antioxidants.

Soak it up
Moisturising your nails and cuticles with a daily application of cuticle oil will stop them becoming dry and cracked. Not only this, but it has also been proven to help make your nail polish last longer!
